The Scientific Foundations of the Taboodoir Brand Story

Growing up, I was completely immersed in scientific discovery. I spent countless hours in an agricultural research lab working on an eight-year research project studying the toxicity of orange oil on termites. This wasn't just a school project - it was groundbreaking environmental research that could potentially revolutionize the pesticide industry with natural solutions.

Working year-round alongside brilliant scientists and chemists, I meticulously identified exactly which compounds in orange peel extract were toxic to termites and precisely how they affected the insects. While not necessarily a glamorous topic, my goal was ambitious: to develop an environmentally safe, naturally occurring alternative to chemical pesticides - evidence that my passion for natural solutions began long before the Taboodoir brand story even began.

The research became my obsession. I dedicated countless evenings and weekends year-round to my lab work, driven by the potential environmental impact of replacing harsh chemicals with natural ingredients found in citrus peels. Despite ultimately seeing my research appropriated by a large corporation, the scientific principles I learned and my dedication to natural solutions would later become fundamental to Taboodoir's approach to skincare.

This passion for scientific exploration began in my elementary school gifted program after reading an article in Scientific American. My research led me to compete internationally, representing the US at the London International Youth Science Forum, being interviewed on BBC Radio, and ultimately winning 1st Place internationally! I was even selected as a Westinghouse Science Talent Search Finalist (where I met President Clinton while unknowingly wearing our future Taboodoir signature magenta!).

While I wasn't part of the "cool club" in school, I thrived in my scientific "nerdom" and wouldn't have traded those lab hours for anything. Despite everyone's expectations that I'd continue in scientific research, life took me on a 15-year detour into Human Resource and Workforce Management software sales.

Pandemic Pivot: A Critical Chapter in the Taboodoir Brand Story

In April 2020, as the pandemic forced global lockdowns, my career in sales came to an abrupt halt. With two young kiddos suddenly in virtual school and summer camps canceled, I found myself at a crossroads, wondering "what now?!?"

This is where the Taboodoir story truly begins, inspired by my late husband David's playful encouragement to "Put some taboo on you!!!" Though it's not the same without him, I've found immense joy in returning to my scientific roots. Today, I combine my love of meticulous research and laboratory precision with skincare formulation, bringing the same dedication to developing natural, effective skincare that I once brought to my termite research.

The Taboodoir brand story is one of coming full circle - from researching natural alternatives to chemical pesticides to creating natural alternatives to chemical-laden skincare products. Both journeys share the same core values: scientific rigor, respect for natural ingredients, and a commitment to creating solutions that are both effective and environmentally conscious.
